Defeated State Legislation that would have Prohibited Local Container, Bag Fees in Ohio

Goal: Prevent SB 210 and HB 625, which would have prohibited local governments in Ohio from enacting fee-based ordinances on "auxiliary containers" such as plastic bags, foam takeout containers, and more, from passing into law.

The Ohio House and Senate both contemplated bills that would have taken away the authority of local governments in the state to enact ordinances to curb the distribution of “auxiliary containers”—including carryout bags, foam takeout containers, cans, bottles, cups, and more—through the use of fees. Surfrider Foundation Northern Ohio worked with Sierra Club Ohio, the Alliance for the Great Lakes, and others to advocate against these bills in the state legislature.
