Expand Paddleboard and Surfing Zone at Hollywood Beach

Surfrider's Broward Chapter is campaigning for full removal of stand up paddle restrictions at Hollywood Beach.

The Broward Chapter is advocating to remove paddle and surfing restrictions at Hollywood Beach. Currently, it is illegal to stand up paddle the majority of the beach in Hollywood, (even when there isn't anyone else in the water). The two small areas allowed for recreation are at opposite ends of the beach, far from the main area of the Broadwalk, which does not allow beachgoers to access cafes and other businesses. The current launch areas can also be dangerous for women to launch on their own.

Restricting paddleboarders and surfers to a small area makes no sense, especially when swimmers are currently allowed inside our small area.

In Hollywood Beach, there are usually no surfable waves, but it’s still very enjoyable to be able to paddle flat water, which is what people at this beach like to do most of the time. We should be promoting water recreation on our beautiful beach, making it friendly to non-harmful eco-tourism. With all of the other positive changes on our beach, we believe this will be another positive change.
